Roblox is a popular gaming platform that has gained traction among adults and kids, especially during the pandemic.
If you’re new to Roblox, you may have noticed different abbreviations, signs, and emoticons used in the platform’s in-experience or in-app chats.
Some of these emoticons can be universally used among all online players, while others are specific to Roblox.
One of these emoticons is XD, which can confuse you if you don’t know what it represents.
What does it mean, and when is it used?
What Does XD Mean In Roblox?
XD is an emoticon used in Roblox chats to indicate laughter and happiness.
If you look at the smiley sideways, you can see a person’s face with the X representing their eyes and the D representing their mouth while laughing.
This smiley isn’t only used on Roblox, though.
Online users use this emoticon in any online texting and chatting platform to show they’re laughing hard.
It can replace LOL and LMAO, which are also acronyms to indicate laughter.
Of course, Roblox users can now show their emotions using emojis.
It’s also normal to use letters instead of emojis, reminding us of the time before emojis were offered on the platform.
What’s Roblox?
Roblox is an online gaming platform that enables users to create and upload games and play the games generated by other members.
Instead of just a single game, it’s a collection of millions of user-generated games, with most of its community members being children and young adults.
It’s similar to Steam and Epic for adults, but it offers a wide variety of free titles, making it a perfect platform for kids.
However, more than children interested in online gaming, this platform is highly appealing to kids who want to dip their toes in the world of coding.
Roblox has easy-to-learn tools that help children develop their own 3D games and offer them to their fellow members to play.
This way, even if the kid has no experience in coding or developing games, they can create their own game through trial and error.
The platform is available on a wide range of devices, including smartphones, Amazon devices, tablets, Xbox One, Mac, and desktop computers.
Roblox is free to download and play, although users can make in-game purchases using Robux.
After downloading and installing the app, you should sign up and provide a username, date of birth, gender, and password.
However, the username shouldn’t be your real name as a security measure to protect children against online predators.
Roblox’s Advantages And Disadvantages
Roblox has offered many opportunities for learning and developing creativity as a highly popular gaming platform among children and adults.
Many users are happy with the freedom Roblox gives them in developing their games in its open-world environment.
It’s a great chance to foster kids’ creativity without forcing them to follow a pre-determined path.
It also caters to many levels of skill and interest among kids to develop their coding skills.
Children can choose to stay in any game designing stage they feel comfortable in or progress to higher stages.
They can learn the coding language via the built-in scripter in Lua, a simple coding language used to design games.
It’s a step-by-step process that helps children master coding if they’re interested.
As a result, it offers kids a great opportunity to prepare for the future by learning an essential skill that comes in handy in their future academic and professional pursuits.
In addition, children earn money by learning a skill and selling their work to others via the Robux.
Robux is the platform’s currency that can be purchased through in-game points or real money.
Children who develop games can charge the users who play them, teaching them how to earn money using their skills.
Despite Roblox’s advantages for kids, it’s not all fun and games.
Experts have warned parents against the problems or dangers threatening their kids on the platform.
Although Roblox prides itself in establishing its community based on safety, respect, transparency, and security, the massive number of users and generated content can get out of hand.
Kids can interact with each other via online chat, exposing them to inappropriate content and communications.
In addition, Roblox is integrated with other social networking sites, including Facebook and Twitter.
This feature allows users to add their gaming friends to these platforms, which can be potentially risky and lead to cyberbullying or real-world threats.
That’s why parents are advised to follow parental control measures provided by the platform to ensure their children’s online safety.
They have algorithms that block offensive content and report chats with inappropriate words.
They even report avatars that show explicit images or inappropriate clothes.
Parents can see their children’s chat history in direct and group chats, friends and followers, recently played games, and much more.
They can also determine what kinds of games their kid can play and lock the feature that allows users to chat in the experience and the app.
Roblox Chat Features
Roblox has many features in common with games like Minecraft.
In addition to the looks and appearance of the games, it allows you to communicate with other players through the in-experience chat.
This feature makes Roblox similar to a social networking website that helps users make friends, interact with others, and share their knowledge and interests.
It’s also easy to access.
You only need to hit the / button on your keyboard.
If the game’s developer has enabled the chat feature, you can see a chat window and start chatting inside the chat bar.
The chat feature is also accessible via the chat icon in the upper left corner of the screen.
Here’s the place you can use emojis and emoticons to express your thoughts, just like any chat medium.
However, if a user is under 12 years old, the platform will filter their chat content to prevent them from posting or receiving inappropriate content or revealing their personal information.
You can also disable the in-experience chat feature for more privacy.
To do so, you should go to Account Settings after logging into your account and go to the Privacy tab.
Find “Who can chat with me?” and click No one under it.
Roblox Emojis
`
The Roblox chat has been around since 2006, but the emoji set wasn’t added until 2017.
That’s why you can see letter combinations widely used to express emotions in the chat.
However, the platform now uses the Twemoji image set, developed by Twitter.
It’s the same emoji set used by Discord with more than 2000 emojis.
However, Roblox hasn’t introduced its emoji keyboard, so you can only use your device’s emoji keyboard or copy your desired emojis from the web and paste them into the chat.
In addition, not all emojis in the Twemoji list are available for everyone because of the filtering process.
For example, NSFW emojis or those depicting explicit content arent available for specific age groups.
The platform also filters inappropriate emojis for children under 13, showing hashtags instead.
Abbreviations In Roblox Chats
Like any online chat platform, Roblox chat also features the use of abbreviations to convey different messages.
It’s a general trend that’s not specific to one platform, and users across all nations and languages use these abbreviations or acronyms.
Most of these phrases and abbreviations replace emojis and emoticons to make things faster.
In Roblox’s case, since the emoji library hadn’t been available from the beginning, the users had to use letters and phrases to express their emotions.
For example, the famous XD, which is not unique to Roblox, is used to show the user is laughing hard.
Although the phrase can also be used in lowercase letters (xd), the uppercase letters make more sense because they resemble an actual laughing face.
The X resembles eyes closed due to hard laughter, and the D looks like an open, smiling mouth if looked at sideways (or if you turn your screen around).
This expression can replace LOL, LMAO, 🙂, 🙂, or ^D, which all mean you’re laughing hard.
You may also come across other different combinations of XD.
For example, “xd rawr” or “Rawr XD” also means hard laughter with squinting eyes with the added expression of “rawr,” which is another spelling for “Roar” and can signify “Dying of laughter.”
These are the most common meanings of the XD emoticon.
However, in rare cases, these letters can be abbreviations of two words, representing completely different meanings.
That’s why you should look at it in the context and work out the meaning accordingly.
For example, XD could mean Extremely Disappointed or Extremely Disillusioned.
However, these cases are rare, and you may never experience them on Roblox since most of the users are kids.
You can also find different versions of a laughing person expressed in other shapes.
For example, B signifies a laughing person wearing sunglasses.
Many other abbreviations are used in Roblox, the same as other platforms.
For example, AFK is a universal phrase meaning Away From Keyboard, which is highly popular among gamers.
Zzzz, YR (you’re right), PM (Private Message), BTX (By the Way), and BRB (Be Right Back) are among the most famous ones.
Other Roblox Emoticons
In addition to the phrases and emoticons common among different chatting platforms, Roblox has a set of unique phrases only used by Roblox users while playing games and chatting.
Here are some of the most commonly used ones:
- A/C – This expression is used when a player is trading with another user, meaning Accept or Counter. Alternatively, you may see A/D in the same context, indicating Accept or Decline.
- Comped – Short for Compromised, this expression means a player’s Roblox account is attacked or hacked.
- Cord -This word is a way to bypass Roblox filtering. The platform doesn’t allow players to use the word “discord,” so they replace it with Cord.
- FFA – If a game is accessible for every player and rules don’t apply, it’s defined as “Free For All.”
- GG – It stands for “Good Game” and indicates you want to quit the game and inform others that you’re not coming back, whether you’re losing or winning.
- KS – This is another abbreviation used because of Roblox filters, meaning “Kiss.”
- TTYL – You may find this abbreviation on other platforms. It means “Talk To You Later.”
As mentioned, Roblox has a strict filtering algorithm that tries to keep the space safe for kids and young adults.
The same thing applies to emojis and abbreviations sued instead of emojis.
As a result, trollers or exploiters may use some abbreviations to get around these filters.
If you’re new to Roblox or a parent whose child is using the platform, you may want to know these abbreviations.
For example, BB (Baby), BG (Baby Girl), or BBG (Baby Beautiful Girl) may seem like innocent and harmless phrases, but exploiters actually use them.
Roblox Emotes
In addition to the emojis and emoticons you can use in the Roblox chat space, the platform allows you to show your feelings through emotes.
These emotes are added to your avatar to show your emotions during gameplay, making it more fun.
Your avatar can dance, cheer, point, wave, and laugh through the emote feature.
These are the emotes already available on the platform for free but are only available in the in-experience chat.
If your in-experience chat isn’t enabled, you can’t see them.
You can easily access these emote via the /e command: type the command in the chat box and add the word for that action.
