Sony announced its annual online event ‘State of Play’ which will occur on September 15th at 5 PM EST.
The event will give PlayStation gamers a look into what is coming to all of the Sony gaming systems this fall.
The event will be available via Sony’s YouTube, Twitch, and TikTok channels, and will focus on updates to the platform and feature announcements of third-party game releases.
Last year’s State of Play event was viewed live by over 2 1/2 million gamers and the company is expecting similar interest this year.
But many long-time PlayStation fans were less than impressed with last year’s announcements, publically calling the event ‘a snoozer’ on the company blog.
This year’s best-selling game “The Prisoner of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom” was not part of the 2022 State of Play announcements.
In fact, most of the games teased at last year’s State of Play aren’t in the top 10 of games sold in 2023.
Despite all this, Sony’s PlayStation platform remains at the top of the list as the most popular system, with the PlayStation 4 at the top of the list, followed by the newer PlayStation 5.
The PlayStation 4 is closing in on the record for the best-selling gaming system of all time, a title currently held by its predecessor, the PlayStation 2 which sold over 150 million units.
The gaming community, however, is notoriously fickle which puts pressure on Sony and its third-party gaming partners to provide some sizzle to this year’s event.
