Sony recently announced a redesign of its PS5 game system in time for the holiday season.
The narrower upright case is aptly named the PS5 Slim and is 30% smaller and up to 24% lighter than its predecessor.
It comes in two editions: the standard PS5 Slim which comes with an Ultra HD Blu-Ray drive, and the PS5 Digital Edition with no drive.
If you change your mind later, a Blu-Ray can be purchased for the Digital Edition.
The PS5 Slim will cost $499.99 with the digital version priced at $449.99. Both models come with 1TB of storage.
Like its predecessors, the platform has an ultra-high-speed SSD for fast loading, haptic feedback, adaptive triggers, and 3D audio.
In early 2024, Sony will offer the ability to change the color of the device (for a cost) with a replacement console cover, available in an all-matte black colorway and the Deep Earth Collection colors in Volcanic Red, Cobalt Blue, and Sterling Silver.
Headlining the new games for the holidays is the long-awaited PS5 exclusive Marvel’s Spider-Man 2.
Spidey 2 from Insomniac Games offers gameplay as both Peter Parker and Miles Morales, who face off against Venom in some shiny new Spider suits.
But those awaiting Insomniac’s other Marvel offering, Wolverine, will be disappointed this holiday season as the release isn’t expected until 2024.
For the first-person shooter fans, the latest Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 is expected in November.
And finally, for Avatar fans, Massive Entertainment is releasing Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora in early December.
