Meta is adding some personality to its forthcoming entry into the white-hot generative AI market according to a new article in the Wall Street Journal.
Zuckerberg and team have been relatively quiet until recently about their gen AI model which, according to insiders, is being built to rival OpenAI’s ChatGPT-4.
The added wrinkle to their model is the idea of adding personality to the responses by the chatbot.
Meta intends to roll out a variety of personality types including one that they refer to as “sassy” attempting to appeal more directly to younger users.
These personalities are meant to emulate popular characters such as Bender from Futurama and make the interactions more fun and humorous.
Some of these models are reportedly already being tested on Instagram.

The idea of personality-driven chatbots has been a hot topic of late.
DeepMinds founder Mustafa Suleyman recently left his post at Google to form a new AI company called Inflection whose chatbot is called Pi.
The Inflection model offers a more supportive chatbot that returns positive and encouraging responses and allows a more conversational interaction.
The company has attracted a lot of attention and a lot of venture dollars from high-profile names like Bill Gates, former Google CEO Eric Schmidt, and Linked In founder, Reid Hoffman who have all invested personal money in the company.
All of these personalities are geared toward elongating users’ interactions with the chatbots which former Instagram executive Meghana Dhar says will allow the company to serve up more ads.
