Back in October, Humane made a splash at the Coperni Fashion Show with a sneak peek of its AI Pin.
The company is expected to launch the pin soon and details are beginning to leak on the specs for the device.
The device will cost $699 with an additional $24 monthly fee for access to Humane’s branded 5G network – which is really just T-Mobile.
The devices attach to clothing with magnets on either side of the fabric which doubles as the device batteries.
The AI part of the pin will be powered by OpenAI’s ChatGPT-4, which will be used to handle multiple tasks like summarizing emails or selecting music based on the situation.
The device will “see” your surroundings, allowing it to feed you information.
For instance, users can program the pin to recognize food in front of them and provide nutritional information on it.
The device can compose emails and voice memos mimicking the user’s voice and send them over its 5G connection.
The pin can provide real-time language translations and feed the translation into the user’s earbud via Bluetooth.
Skeptics say the device is nothing more than a glorified cell phone, but it is certainly an advancement in wearable tech, which when combined with the generative AI tools, provides an interesting advancement toward a more robust personal assistant.
The company’s many investors seem to agree. These investors include Microsoft, Volvo Cars, Qualcomm, and OpenAI founder Sam Altman to name a few.
