How Big Is A 24-Inch Monitor? (Explained)

Twenty-four-inch monitors are one of the most popular displays due to their convenient size and versatility.

However, you should ensure the monitor fits your space before purchasing it.

Knowing the exact dimensions of a monitor will help you picture it on your desk with higher accuracy.

A 24-inch monitor is about 20 inches wide and 12 inches high, although you may find 24” monitors that are 15 inches high.

That’s the monitor’s entire size considering bezels—the panels surrounding the display for protection and robustness.

This can give you a general idea of how much space you need on your desk to place a 24-inch monitor.

If you want to know the net display size of the monitor, you should subtract the bezel’s dimensions.

Still, you can get a general idea of the display’s size through the monitor’s inches.

A 24-inch monitor indicates the diagonal distance between the main display’s upper left corner and the lower right corner is 24 inches (60.96 cm).

What Are The Display Features Of A 24-Inch Monitor?

If you’re in the market for a 24” monitor, size isn’t the only feature that affects your decision.

You may think the monitor’s size is the primary factor because it has to fit your space.

While that’s a valid assumption, you should also consider other features to ensure they fit your purposes.

Here are the primary features of a 24-inch monitor:

1. Aspect Ratio

The aspect ratio is the most important factor that determines a monitor’s size.

As the ratio of a monitor’s width to height, the aspect ratio determines the overall shape of the display—whether it’s square or rectangular or how wide it is.

A 24” monitor’s aspect ratio is 16:9, offering enough screen space and a decent viewing standard in terms of display width.

It’s perfect for watching videos and playing games, as most of the content is currently created with the 16:9 aspect ratio in mind.

2. Resolution

Another key feature directly related to and affected by screen size is resolution.

Screen resolution determines how accurately and vividly you can see pictures on your display.

However, it has a technical definition determined by screen size and aspect ratio.

It refers to the number of pixels arranged horizontally and vertically inside the screen.

The higher number of pixels, the higher the resolution.

The aspect ratio of 16:9 means you can have a 1920×1080 resolution, which is the industry standard Full HD, 1080p.

You may see 24” monitors with 4K resolution, but they don’t give you the image quality you want.

That’s because the screen has limited space for the number of pixels required for 4K resolution.

Therefore, you may not get a truly 4K experience.

A 24” Monitor’s Overall Size

If you have space limitations, you should consider the overall size of the monitor to make sure it fits into your space.

Thus, you should consider the bezel size and the stand’s dimensions.

Depending on the bezel design, you may need to add two or three inches to get the total monitor size.

However, modern monitors reduce their bezel sizes to create a sleeker design and offer a better viewing experience.

Another size issue that you should consider is the thickness.

Modern monitors have come a long way in reducing thickness and depth.

Although manufacturers compete to offer the thinnest design possible, you may get different thicknesses depending on the brand.

A 24” monitor can typically be two to seven inches thick, depending on the model and manufacturer.

The stand can also add to the overall size of the monitor.

You may choose to get a shorter or taller stand to fit your space, but you should expect it to make your monitor four to six inches taller.

How Much Does A 24” Monitor Weigh?

In most circumstances, you may not need to know how much your monitor weighs.

However, there are many cases when you need to have the monitor’s weight information.

For example, if you want to mount your monitor on the wall, you should ensure the mounting arm can bear the monitor’s weight.

You may also live or work in a place that requires constant moving.

Therefore, you may prefer a lightweight monitor that allows you to move it without help.

Monitor weight is a feature that varies widely across different manufacturers.

It depends on the design, the internal components, and the bezel size and type.

However, you should expect a 24” monitor to weigh between seven and 10 pounds on average, with modern monitors generally weighing less.

However, you may find monitors weighing six or 13 pounds.

For example, this 24” 24M47VQ-P LG monitor weighs 6.2 pounds, whereas the Acer XFA240 bmjdpr-24” weighs 13.99 pounds.

Should You Get A 24” Monitor?

Getting the right size monitor can be challenging, although you may be tempted to get the biggest display that your space can accommodate.

However, different factors go into choosing the monitor that suits you size-wise.

A 24” monitor is big enough for many purposes and is the preferred choice for many users and gamers for the following reasons:

1. Suitable Size

Many office users prefer a 24” monitor because it fits most desks.

It allows enough space for peripherals and other office tools that you keep on your desk.

If you have a small space, a 24” monitor is perfect.

It also offers enough screen real-state to perform most office jobs.

However, if your job requires lots of screen space to work with several programs and open different windows simultaneously, you may want to go for a bigger screen.

2. Healthy Viewing Distance

Your monitor should have a suitable viewing angle and allow you to look at it from a healthy distance.

A 24” monitor is big enough to display every image in great detail without straining the eyes.

In addition, the perfect size monitor does not make you move your head to the right or left to see the content on the screen.

You should be able to place your eyes at the center of the monitor, and it should be big (or small) enough to let you see the entire screen content at once.

With bigger screens, considering the monitor is at arm’s length from your eyes, you’ll have to sit farther back to have such a view.

This distance can be longer for gaming, so you can have a bigger screen if you want more accuracy.

However, a 24” screen is perfect for gaming because head movements can affect your performance, especially with FPS games.

3. Decent Resolution

As mentioned earlier, most 24” screens have a native 1080p resolution, although you may find 4K monitors of this size, too.

However, the best resolution for this size monitor is 1080p because it offers the best PPI (Pixels Per Inch).

This pixel density is perfect for most office work, giving you a clear picture while working on documents.

However, if you need high-quality images and videos as you work in editing or content creation, you may need to upgrade to a bigger, 4K screen.

Gamers can play many modern games as they’re HD.

However, to get the full AAA gaming experience, you’ll need a 4K display.

4. More Reasonable Prices

A monitor’s price hinges on many factors, including the panel type, size, and technology.

However, you can safely assume that a 24” monitor is more reasonably priced than a larger screen with the same features.

If you have a tight budget, you can get a decent display by purchasing a 24” monitor.

In addition, if you’re environmentally concerned, you can get a 24” monitor because it consumes less energy than larger screens.

Other Factors To Consider In A Monitor

Size is only one consideration when picking the right monitor.

Depending on your purposes, one of these factors may be more important than the others.

You should review your options and what you look for in your monitor to make the best choice.

Here are the other factors that you should consider:

1. Panel Type

A monitor’s panel type plays a significant role in its color accuracy and performance.

While shopping for a new monitor, you’ll hear terms like LCD, LED, OLED, IPS, VA, and TN panels thrown around, confusing you even further.

These differ in terms of the way their liquid crystals are arranged and how they can affect brightness and color accuracy.

You should do your homework and consider all the features each panel type offers to make the best choice that matches your purposes and physical conditions.

For example, VA monitors have better contrast ratios and are better for darker spaces.

On the other hand, IPS monitors offer better viewing angles, making them perfect for office spaces.

2. Refresh Rate

For a gaming monitor, the refresh rate is one of the key features that affect your choice.

Measured in hertz, the refresh rate refers to the number of times it can produce images per second.

As a result, the higher this number is, the better since it can offer more crisp images.

3. Connection Types

You may get so caught up in considering other key features that you forget other less important points.

However, a monitor with many connection types is a blessing regardless of its use.

Whether you use it for general work, gaming, or more professional purposes, connection types allow you to hook up different devices to your monitor.

HDMI, USB-C, and DisplayPort are the essential ports that each monitor should have.
