Disney announced the release of a collectible set of Blu-Ray films as part of its ongoing celebration of the company’s centennial.
The big anniversary is hard to miss with special events happening at the company’s theme parks and all Disney films featuring a special Disney 100 logo.
Walt Disney and his brother Roy founded the company in 1923 when Walt was only 21 years old to create animated short films.
In 1937, Walt changed the history of animation with the first full-length animated feature film, Snow White & The Seven Dwarfs.
The Disney Animated Legacy Collections celebrates this legacy with high-quality Blu-Ray versions of 100 of the most popular Disney features.
But the collection does not come cheap, with an eye-popping price tag of $1500.
The collection comes in a three-volume binding that unfolds into a popup storybook and includes a certified lithograph cel from the company’s upcoming feature Wish.
Rounding out the set are the familiar mouse ears, but in crystal and engraved with the Disney 100 logo.
The films themselves range from the cel animation era beginning with Snow White and continuing to the computer-animated years of Pixar, which Disney acquired in 2006.
All the classics are included from Pinocchio to 101 Dalmations but also include many films that are less familiar like one of the company’s last cel-animated movies, The Black Cauldron.
For film and Disney buffs with a good amount of extra cash, the set is a beautiful homage to the history of the company from its humble beginnings to the mega-media company it is today.
The collection is available on November 14th.
