Every September the hottest event is Apple’s annual product event as the world waits for the release of the new iPhone.
This year’s event called “Wonderlust” took place recently in the Steve Jobs Theater on the Cupertino campus of Apple in advance of the phone’s September 15th general release.
CEO Tim Cook introduced the newest addition of the iPhone family with the announcement of the new iPhone 15.
This year’s event didn’t launch any new groundbreaking technology but focused on improving existing features.
The new iPhone 15 has an asking price of $799 and comes in a regular and pro sized version.
The chip at the core of the phone is the A16, launched last year and already used in the later model iPhone 14s.
Apple has moved fully to the USB-C cord for both versions of the phone and retired the Lightning Wire.
The new phone maintains its 6.1 inch display screen despite coming in a slightly smaller case and shaving a few ounces of its predecessor.
There are a few upgrades to the camera system including a new 6x periscope zoom.
Probably the most interesting updates are additions to the smart components including the AI powered assistant that will begin the era of AI in all of our pockets.
Of course, the color choices for the new phones are always front and center and this year didn’t disappoint.
The regular phone comes in six colors in a pastel pallet, and the Pro phones are much more sedate with a darker set of phones in a new titanium wrapper.
After some big changes in past years, it is easy to overlook the power of the product and be a little ho-hum about the small evolutionary changes.
But ultimately not every new release hits a home run, but instead is a safe hit.
In that vein, the iPhone 15 is a worthy update to the iPhone family.
